  About the role: 

The EMG/Gravity Media SportsCom team provides the communication systems between umpire mics and OB trucks for the AFL, Rugby and other sports coverage around Australia.   

 What you’ll be responsible for: 

The Audio & Communications Technician role is primarily responsible for supporting all technical and operational aspects of projects for SportsCom. They are required to provide support and leadership onsite, managing staff, equipment and client relations.  

This role will be instrumental in maintaining high standards from the planning stages through to transmission, including asset quality control and project preparation. Working closely with operations and communications engineers and other relevant teams. 

This role will support the delivery is of high technical quality and to strict deadlines. 

 Based in our Clayton warehouse in Melbourne and in the field, this role will require flexibility, including working weekends, late nights, and some public holidays. Additionally, there are exciting opportunities to travel across Australia and potentially overseas as part of this position, and competitive benefits on offer 

 Duties and responsibilities:  

  • Demonstrate strong fundamental knowledge and experience with various communications formats and systems. 
  • Assist with ensuring all audio and communications equipment required for each rostered project is configured, operational and working. 
  • Identify the location of equipment to be returned from projects and once the equipment is back, ensure all kit is scanned and all faulty equipment removed from the facility and reported into maintenance system.   
  • Assist with registration and tracking of new assets into the asset management system.  
  • Assist with the stock take of audio and communications stock.  
  • Maintain lines of communication with the team to ensure re-supply of expendable, missing and required items are always stocked. 
  • Assist with regular checks on equipment to ensure each item is in good working condition and a high standard of presentation is always maintained. This includes and is not limited to cleaning, routine testing, fault finding, ongoing preventative maintenance, coordinating equipment repairs, as well as replacing or providing alternatives to achieve project delivery.  
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the warehouse environment and equipment storage space. 
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure all technical information is distributed efficiently. 
  • Assist the Warehouse teams with maintenance, preparation and general support with preparation and programming of equipment and system documentation. 
  • Maintain project documentation and configuration file backups as required.  
  • Liaise with Management in relation to freelancer work performance, future equipment purchasing and new opportunities within the market for growth. 
  • Assist and provide support to other teams and projects as required. This includes but is not limited to the deployment of communications equipment and systems in the field.  
  • Develop a close working relationship with all stakeholders, responding to all enquiries within a reasonable timeframe, ensuring strong lines of communication and fostering a reputation for professionalism and service for yourself and the Company. 

 This role is for you if you have: 

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with audio and communications formats and systems. 
  • Genuine interest in broadcast and new media. 
  • Flexibility around work hours and schedule demands. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Keen interest in sports, particularly AFL. 
  • Available to work outside of regular business hours and travel when required
