Melbourne, August 20, 2014– Avid® (OTC: AVID) announces that its live sound systems were selected to mix and provide recording for headline and line-up performances at this year’s Soundwave Festival. An annual music festival featuring some of the world’s most influential metal bands, Soundwave can boast performances by up to 90 bands in a single day in each of the major cities across Australia; Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, attracting capacity crowds.
For the main stage, which hosted headline acts including American rock bands, Green Day, A7X and Alice in Chains, Soundwave needed a powerful and reliable front of house console that could cope with the size, scope and complexity of the headliners’ live sound requirements.
Bruce Johnston, Soundwave Audio Production Manager and Director of JPJ Audio and Johnston Audio Services, delivered the artists’ live system of choice, the Avid Profile System. Main stage and stage 2, used three systems for Front of House and three for monitors with the addition of an Avid | SC48 for monitors. These stages were duplicated for the forward setup while stages 3 through to stages 6A and 6B all employed Avid Profiles for FOH.
“The majority of touring artists list the Avid | Profile as their preferred FOH console,” says Johnston. “Although Profile is still specified approximately 80% of the time for FOH, we have noticed a trend towards more demand for Profile for monitors with at least 50% of acts now specifying Profile for monitors for other festivals across Australia.”
Running VENUE software on both the Profile and SC48 systems artists have access to workflows that are streamlined and, where required, easily integrated with Avid Pro Tools® audio production software to record the live music performances. Reliability is a must.
“In these demanding conditions we need a console that is reliable and robust,” comments Johnston. “Overall, there were more than seven stages equipped with Avid Profiles and the total set-up consisted of twenty-six Profiles and five SC48 systems. Over the course of Soundwave we took up nearly all of the available Avid Profile Systems for hire in Australia to cover the demand. We had a spare console but we never had to use it because the Avid | Profile and SC48 are incredibly stable and reliable.”
