The Western Australian Turf Club (trading as Perth Racing) has a remarkable history of hosting thoroughbred horse racing for nearly 160 years. Perth Racing is a multi-faceted racing, entertainment and event business. At our two premier metropolitan tracks, Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park, we host around 95 race meetings every year as well as frequent non-raceday events.
The role
We are seeking a dynamic and driven individual with a track record of performance to become an integral part of the AV Production team at Perth Racing, helping to achieve excellent race day coverage and non-race day events.
The successful candidate will be able to organise, assemble and operate AV equipment and setups for events confidently. The candidate will be able to use vision switching and audio switching equipment. The candidate will follow workplace safety guidelines and policies. A team player and a can-do attitude is essential to be successful in the role.
Our facilities at both tracks include over 1,000 flat screens, two RF head ends one being a newly commissioned ip/mat tv, two sound and vision control rooms, multiple equipment racks and the biggest LED screen that we like to call the super screen.
Race day duties would include sound and vision switching directing operations, supervising casual AV staff and or training (or occasionally super screen operator).
Perth Racing Offering
This opportunity is being offered on a permanent fulltime basis, Tuesday to Saturday. However, permanent part time working arrangements will be considered for the right candidate, providing it includes working on Saturday race days.
Primary duties
The AV Operator/ Technician has the following key areas of focus:
- Support the coordination of all oncourse production and oncourse Audio-Visual systems and equipment to ensure ongoing availability and reliability.
- Ensure inventory control and assist with the ongoing maintenance and repair of AV and Production equipment including studio, camera & capture equipment.
- Responsible for installations, modifications, upgrades, testing and maintenance of all AV equipment and systems, which includes the set up and support on Racedays and events
- Setup AV installation works to specification and instruction for upcoming events
- Provide training & guidance to casual AV staff.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
- Ensure compliance is met for the Club’s statutory obligations in respect of stakeholders, RWWA, local Government and Occupational Safety and Health.
- Be proactive in developing and promoting sound safety practices in association with OSH legislation and the Club’s safety culture and values.
Skills and experience
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual with the following skills and experience:
- Qualifications in a technical discipline (Audio Engineering, Video Production etc.) advantageous but not essential
- Forklift or Elevated Platform (desirable)
- Working at heights (desirable)
- A current C class drivers’ licence and dependable transport
- Proven organizational skills with respect to event planning & multitasking
- Ability to troubleshoot, fault find and repair
- Soldering, cable assembly & minor installation
- Experience with AV and broadcast equipment (Installation and setup)
- A general understanding of network infrastructure
- Solid understanding of AV/IT principals such as data & signal flow, electrical distribution, lighting & video projection
- Understanding of fixed audio systems with analogue and DSP equipment, including optical fiber signal technology, methods, and IP systems highly desirable (desirable)
- Sound understanding of broadcast systems & OB operation (desirable)
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Strong customer service orientation
- Strong organizational and prioritizing skills
- 3+ year experience in similar AV Technician or Production Assistant role
- 3+ years within the Events, Audio Visual, and/or Live Production industry
