Lab move leaves TC at Amber

As Hills SVL farewell one of their better performing audio brands from their Australian distribution network, rival Audio Products Group expect a solid halo effect for their distributed loudspeaker brand, Tannoy. Lab Gruppen amplifiers and Tannoy loudspeakers are both TC Group brands, the Danish conglomerate also houses TC Electronic which is a leading brand in the broadcast and MI space.
While Hills SVL are disappointed to lose Lab, they certainly performed well as distributors and the loss had nothing to do with their status. As CX understands it, TC took the decision to move Tannoy and Lab together in this market.
Audio Products Group are ideally placed to take over the line. “This is of course great news for APG and really enhances our IS (install) and Pro portfolio,” CEO Ken Dwyer told CX. “APG sold our “residential products” division in July (i.e. Denon, NAD etc) and we now intend to focus entirely on Pro and IS. So the timing of this brand addition is excellent not to mention the quality of the brand itself.”
The halo effect on Tannoy will help APG and TC Group. Tannoy is an excellent brand with a lower profile than it deserves, in a crowded live and installation loudspeaker market. There are more brands of loudspeaker than any other professional audio device – mixers, microphones, amplifiers or processors.
Across Sydney Amber Technology retain distribution of TC Electronic which sells to M.I., pro and Broadcast. CX understands TC reconfirmed they have not planned to shift that line which sits under a different category in their organisational chart.
